As promised:

I'm using the brass stick to hold the thing up here, and I slide it behind the tines of the comb to anchor it. Nevertheless, I think I'll have to wear the bun higher in the future (more centered on the back of my head as opposed to a nape bun) in order to keep the comb from "backing out." The tips of the tines are JUST long enough that if I move my head or look up, the comb wants to slide upward.

beautiful!

perhaps if you want to wear it in a nape bun you can wear the ornament more to one side, with the tines at an angle?

Wow Janis, it is STUNNING in your dark hair! And I must compliment you on your glossiness as much as the hairtoy :)

I was wondering what the stick was for, that makes much more sense. I imagine the comb would be quite slippery, too. The ladybug looked so ornate in the original photos but that boldness really suits your hair more than I thought. It's much more subtle than the giant garnets and brass would indicate!

Oh, that gloss is due to two things: I'd just washed it and so it was a bit damp, and the flash. Left to its own devices, my hair frizzes if you look at it wrong.

Yep, the stick is just a regular hairstick; I wear combs like this in buns, and I didn't want to wear it with a hairstick that didn't match, so I asked Bill to make a very plain brass hairstick that I could use when I wanted to wear it, and it has the added benefit of anchoring the comb. I have the dubious honor of having hair that's too thick for even the largest Amish hairpins. :-P Thus, all the combs I design from now on will require matching plain hairsticks. Oh, well. There's worse annoyances in life.
