Finally a style that stayed in all day [Sep. 24th, 2008|10:28 pm]

I was bored the other night and started playing with my hair. I ended up double plaiting it, though it looks simple, it's a tad different from the usual braid. Tried it again today, using slim pony tail holders, which I covered up with my flexi 8's which have never stayed in until today.

Knot Heads [Aug. 30th, 2008|05:19 pm]

I saw these Knot heads mentioned on one of the hair forums, I have joined recently (Cannot for the life of me recall which one) They arrived in 7 days, which is fantastic considering they came from the US to the UK.

I have had a quick play around with them and managed to fashion a casual bun. Considering 99% of hair toys fall out of my head within minutes, the bun is still in 5 hours later. I think I have finally found a hair toy that will get a lot of use. The long one I bought will also be useful next time I am on a bike and need something comfy to tie my hair back that doesn't rub on the helmet.

I can't find the lead to my camera, so can't take photo's yet, but will try take some asap

Site for styles, using hairtoys [Aug. 28th, 2008|04:05 pm]

Of course, you may have already seen it. It's Dressy Tresses and they do sell hairtoys. I haven't bought from them, so can neither recommend nor disparage them.

One of my problems in having long hair is not knowing very many pretty things to do with it. My mother wasn't set on raising a girlygirl, and as a kid I was happier putting on a headband, sticking bluejay feathers in it and playing "Indian", running around "scalping" the neighborhood boys. Poor things.

And, as mentioned before, my highschool style was parted down the middle & that's it. I think the black girls I went to school with were probably irritated with me. They had a time getting theirs to grow long, but would do such marvelous things with it and here I and the other white girls just grew it out and flopped it around.

Anyway, that site does show various styles to try, and I've found it helpful.

I don't know why I only took a picture of the one instead of the pair. Must be because I was only using the one ;)Onward!Collapse )

Kind of wish I'd gotten one in a witchy black. Maybe later. :)

Hello! Post [Aug. 20th, 2008|03:06 pm]

Hello! :)

This is the first time I've worn my hair long since the 1970s, and at that time it was strictly parted-down-the-middle-classic-Ted-Bundy-victim style. For years after that, it was as illustrated in the avatar.

Well. We're working from home, now, and I neither have the need nor the extra $$$ for the haircut every 6-8 weeks and good lord it's down to my elbows.

It's been fun exploring different ways I can wear it, and finding items a bit jazzier than a chewed pencil to dress it up with, but a lot of that stuff is rather expensive if you want something that's not cheap crap.

Anyway, these guys make affordable hardwood hairpins. I have a pair on order, and will let you know how they do. If they're anything like the pens I bought from them in 1991 that are still going strong, they should do great.

So, hello!

Hair care when swimming [Jul. 29th, 2008|09:00 pm]

Hi guys

I am hoping to start swimming soon -Though I have said this for the past couple of years so this soon is a bit of a roundtuit kind of thing lol

One of the problems is, I would hate to have my hair destroyed by the chlorine in the pool. I would be gutted after all the years of being careful with my hair by making sure I don't use heated appliances often, wearing a hat to keep the sun off my head and never colouring my hair ends up wasted by using a swimming pool. If anyone has any suggestions how I can keep my locks in good shape whilst trying to get in shape I'd really appreciate it

Keeping the tail end in [Jul. 18th, 2008|09:08 pm]

Hi guys. I have had almost success with this style posted earlier in the community Click Thanks to the advice from another member suggesting I use wavy hair sticks - thank you again :D

The problem I am finding is keeping the tail end of my braid in. I end up using several pins, yet still it pings out and the braid unravels. I bought wavy steel hair pins which claimed to give a better hold, but this hasn't helped. I have twisted them slightly and sprayed hairspray onto them. The only thing I haven't tried is super glue lol

Anyone have an amazing idea to keep the tail end tucked in where it belongs?

New hairtoys! [Jul. 7th, 2008|09:15 am]

Two new Ron Quattros, whee!

They're at the bottom of this page -- called "Green Sparkle" and "Corian Hairfork."

They're both gorgeous; his stuff is always gorgeous. I just wish he'd do more with colors frmo the red side of the color wheel. However, I'd been wanting soemthing with green in it for some times, and these are perfect. Nice and thick, robust -- good for Gibraltar buns and for the pinless braided buns.

Update on the brass comb: the garnets came in a while back and have been sent off to the metalsmith who will fabricate it. It'll probably end up being sent while I'm in Wales at the end of the month.

I also found a place where I can take jewelry-marking and metalworking classes and will be doing that during the end of the year -- yay! Then I'll be able to make the things myself!

Do I need to use superglue [Jul. 3rd, 2008|03:06 pm]

I am sick of buying hair toys only for them to slip out of my hair within seconds.

I recently bought a bun shaper and a couple of flexi 8's only for them to be consigned to the toy box which is now over flowing with unusable toys. Am I to start super gluing the toys to my hair to keep them in?

I can't be the only person with sleek hair that has this problem.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. :(
